Varsity Track Competes in WPIAL Championships

As has been the case all season, the cold / wind / rain could not stop the Avonworth/Northgate sprint crew from burning up the track yesterday at the WPIAL Championships at SRU.Competing in the largest classification, Savian Baptiste roared to a 2nd-place silver medal in the 100m with a new personal record of 10.84, narrowly missing gold by just 0.05 seconds. That time is the 2nd fastest in program history! Savian came back later in the day and took another 2nd-place silver in the 200m. His PR time of 21.69 breaks our all-time program record, one that has stood since 1998! Savian's performances qualify him for the PIAA State Championships next week in Shippensburg. It is quite simply the greatest one-day sprint performance one of our boys has ever had!The girls of the 4x100m relay - Julia Doherty, Grace Kuretich, Catheryn Behr & Harper Robinson - came into the meet ranked 7th, and proceeded to blow the doors off of all but 2 other squads, finishing with 3rd place bronze medals and
