Mason Metz kept his home run streak going and Cooper Scharding and Carson Franc took care of business on the mound to lead Avonworth Varsity Baseball to a doubleheader sweep of Shady Side Academy, 12-1 and 7-0, in section play Tuesday, April 15th . Metz homered in both ends of the doubleheader, making it 4 consecutive games with a round-tripper for the senior catcher, and collected 5 hits and 6 rbi on the day.

In the 12-1 victory in game 1, Jack Dolan doubled twice and Alex Rowe notched 2 hits and 2 RBI. Scharding picked up the win, allowing 1 run and striking out 7 over 5 innings. In Game 2, Case Latore entered the home run chat with a 6th-inning bomb to the deepest part of the ballpark, his first of the season, followed immediately by Metz’s second homer of the day. Dolan and Latore had 2 hits each and Franc went the distance on the mound, holding Shady Side scoreless over 6 innings with 2 hits, 8 strikeouts and only 1 walk.
